13 Tollywood Biggies To Watch Out For In The Second Half Of 2017





The first half of 2017 is over and it didn't disappoint us. A number of awesome movies have been lined up for the second half of the year. It is amazing to see that Tollywood is all set to release some brilliant projects which have original scripts, authentic ideas, and exceptional storylines. And the best part is, each movie is different than the other. Be it in the genre or in the execution, variety is the key card of 2017 Tollywood. Therefore, we see the makers ditch the tried and tested formulas and try out something new. Considering these essential factors, we have listed down the most anticipated films of the second half of 2017.




Meghnadbodh Rohoshyo (21st July)


With this whodunit mystery drama, Anik Dutta, the maker of an unforgettable 'Bhooter Bhabisyot' is making a comeback after three long years. Naturally, the audience is eagerly waiting for the movie to hit the screen. Actor Abir Chatterjee, in his interview to a Bengali daily, said, 'Meghnadbodh Rohoshyo' is a socially relevant thriller. Being familiar with his satirical tone in his previous movies, this only intrigues us more.




Jawker Dhon (August 4)


How many of you have read adventure stories in childhood? These stories can never go wrong. Hemendrakumar Ray's 'Jawker Dhon' is one such story. Two friends Parambrata and Rahul find a skull carved with cryptic inscriptions. They managed to decipher the message and set on a thrilling journey to the Neora Valley for discovering a hidden treasure. Also starring Sabyasachi, Priyanka Sarkar, and Kaushik Sen, the film's trailer has shown great potential. We have to wait till the end of July to watch the full movie.




Dhononjoy (11th August)


Probably one of the most controversial films of the year, 'Dhananjoy' is set to release in this August. Directed by Arindam Sil, the movie, which once again bring the almost forgotten chapter of Dhananjoy Chatterjee's execution back on the silver screen is being expected to put the audience in front of some disturbing facts and questions. The controversy itself can boost the box-office of this Anirban Bhattacharya and Mimi Chakraborty starrer venture.




Chhaya O Chhobi (August release)


'Bishorjon', Kaushik Ganguly's first movie of this year has bagged the national award for the best Bengali film and at the same time fared well at the box-office. The director is once again repeating his favorite Abir Chatterjee in 'Chhaya O Chhobi', while Koel Mallik will make a comeback with this love story. Not enough? Well, a stellar cast, including Ritwick Chakraborty, Priyanka Sarkar, Barun Chanda, and Churny Ganguly, the gorgeous location of Darjeeling, and his midas touch of maestro Kaushik Ganguly definitely make it one of the must-watch movies of this year.




Aami Joy Chatterjee (August Release)


Directed by Manoj Michigan, the movie is being considered as the most thought-provoking films of the year. The motion poster and the recently released trailer has confirmed the claim. The maker of '89', this time is set to present a fantasy thriller that will keep the audience on the edge. The movie revolves around an ambitious, self-centered man named Joy Chatterjee (Abir) who goes missing all of a sudden!




Shob Bhooturey (September Release)


Birsa Dasgupta's last release in the first half of the movie couldn't match viewer's expectation, however, that didn't stop his next venture to make it to this list. Well, who wouldn't love to watch a Bengali horror story where Byomkesh and Satyabati AKA Abir and Sohini play the leads trying to decode the mystery of a haunted school. Unlike the Hollywood horror flicks, the movie will be like Bangla ghost stories full of suspense and thrill. We are already hooked.




Projapoti Biskut (Puja Release)


Chandrabindu's vocalist Anindya Chatterjee's debut Bangla cinema 'Open Tee Bioschope' was one of a kind film which left a long lasting effect on the movie buffs. The audience found a piece of their life in it. It's only normal that they have a huge expectation from his second release from the same director. The story of a newly married couple finding love in each other, 'Projapoti Biskut' can be full of pleasant surprises.




Byomkesh o Agnibaan (Puja Release)


Well, director Anjan Dutt has yet to reveal the name of his new movie on Satyanweshi Byomkesh Bakshi but we are already hooked. This time, the ace filmmaker has merged two stories 'Anukul' and 'Agnibaan' in one movie, which makes it a double bonanza for the loyal audience of Byomkesh franchise. With Jisshu Sengupta and Saswata Chatterjee are reviving their parts as Byomkesh and Ajit, the movie will have a Durga Puja release. What more would you want?




Yeti Obhijaan (Puja Release)


While detective Bakshi will be busy in murder mysteries in this Durgotsav, Kakababu will set out in 'Yeti Obhijaan'. Exciting, right? Based on Sunil Ganguly's 'Pahachuray Atonko' is going to be Srijit Mukherjee's second film on Kakababu series. After four years, Prosenjit Chatterjee will revive the role of Raja Roy Choudhury. Jisshu Sengupta has been roped in to play a pivotal role in the film. The team is keeping his role under wraps. Is he playing the big baddie? We have to wait till this Puja to find the answer..




Cockpit (Puja Release)


When was the last time when Bengali movie audience witnessed a pilot's struggle on screen? The answer is never. Well, then ‘Cockpit’ makes it a must watch for all those who are looking for a fresh content. When a pilot, after taking off realizes the flight is facing some technical glitches and adverse climate, how he deals with the entire situation sets the crux of Kamaleswar Mukherjee's upcoming film. Starring Dev, Rukmini, and Koel Mallik, this film has to be your must-watch list for its never-seen-before storyline and engaging plot. <




Bolo Dugga Maiki (Puja Release)


When Raj Chakraborty tells a story of a man with an excellent capability of uttering at least forty lies in a minute, you know you are signing up for an eventful roller-coaster ride which is named as 'Bolo Dugga Maiki'. The name itself has the smell of festivity right? No wonder that the film is set on the backdrop of Durgotsav and is to celebrate the festivity with full grandeur. Ankush and Nusrat's chemistry could be a plus for this one.



Dhumketu


The fans are waiting for 'Dhumketu' to arrive for long. The release of this Dev and Subhasree starrer film that was shot long ago, has been postponed for several times. As per the latest news, Kaushik Ganguly's directorial venture may release in January 2017. Even after, several delays, people have not lost their interest in the first movie to be made under Dev's home production, which is a good news for the film. Dev and Subhasree's come back as a pair (on-screen, obviously) will give it an advantage over others.




Amazon Obhijan


Among all the movies that are lined up for a 12 movies release, 'Amazon Obhijan' is undoubtedly the biggest name in the list. With Dev retrieving his role as Shankar, this adventure movie is going to stun the viewers with everything that was unseen in Bangla cinema. The team has gone to the jungle of Amazon and shot under the water to make it a majestic experience for the audience. 'Amazon Obhijan' is to have a Cristmas release.
