In a surprising turn of events, Hoichoi’s upcoming courtroom drama franchise, “Advocate Achinta Aich,” directed by Joydeep Mukherjee, has witnessed a casting change. Ritwick Chakraborty, who plays the titular character, was initially set to face off against Anirban Chakrabarti as his archrival. However, sources reveal that Anirban has been replaced by Saswata Chatterjee, adding a new dimension to the legal battle.
Despite no official communication from the production team or Hoichoi, insiders suggest that the decision to replace Anirban was made to preserve his ‘Eken Babu’ image and avoid portraying him as a negative character. Saswata Chatterjee will now step into the role of Ritwick’s adversary, setting the stage for intense courtroom confrontations where one fights for justice, and the other for injustice.
The storyline of “Advocate Achinta Aich” explores Ritwick’s journey to becoming a lawyer and the circumstances that lead him to contemplate leaving the legal profession. The series has commenced filming, featuring Debraj Bhattacharya from “Ballabhpurer Roopkotha,” and Paran Bandyopadhyay portraying Ritwick’s father.
In a related development, Hoichoi recently released another courtroom drama titled “Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo” on January 5. Inspired by a real-life incident, the series features Mimi Chakraborty and Tota Roy Chowdhury, recounting a tragic event where a police constable was killed while protesting a case of sexual harassment on New Year’s Eve in Kolkata. The twist in the story revealed the killers to be fellow cops. Directed by Chandrasish Roy, the web series marks Mimi Chakraborty’s debut in the OTT space.
