Ritwick Chakraborty was born on 31 March 1977 in Barrackpore, West Bengal. He grew up in North Kolkata and became associated with Bengali theatre from an early age. His theatre background played an important role in shaping his approach towards acting.

Before establishing himself as a film actor, Ritwick worked as a scriptwriter for television soap operas. He left that work in 2003 and subsequently appeared in television serials and telefilms. His early exposure to theatre and television helped him develop the naturalistic acting style for which he later became known.

His theatrical film debut came with Pagal Premi in 2007. He subsequently appeared in Anjan Dutt’s Chalo Let’s Go, followed by films such as Cross Connection and Le Chakka.
