ABOUT MITHUN CHAKRABORTY

Born Gouranga Chakraborty on
16 June 1950 in Calcutta,
West Bengal, Mithun Chakraborty went on to become one of the most
successful actors in Indian cinema.

He studied at Scottish Church College in Kolkata and later graduated
from the Film and Television Institute of India. His cinematic journey
began with Mrigayaa in 1976,
a performance that earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor.

During the 1980s, Mithun became a major Hindi film star and acquired the
iconic nickname “Disco King”,
particularly after the popularity of his dance-oriented commercial
films and songs.

At the same time, he continued working in Bengali cinema, delivering
critically acclaimed performances in films including
Tahader Katha and
Swami Vivekananda.

Across his career, he has worked in Hindi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Tamil,
Telugu, Kannada, Odia and other Indian-language productions, making him
one of the most multilingual performers in Indian cinema.
