Raj Chakraborty is one of the prominent contemporary filmmakers of Bengali cinema, known for commercially successful entertainers as well as socially driven stories. Beginning his feature-film directorial career with Chirodini Tumi Je Amar in 2008, he went on to direct films including Challenge, Dui Prithibi, Bojhena Shey Bojhena, Proloy, Chaamp, Parineeta, Habji Gabji, Dharmajuddha, Babli and Shontaan. His 2026 film Hok Kolorob marks another socially charged chapter in his filmmaking journey.

ABOUT RAJ CHAKRABORTY

Raj Chakraborty was born on 21 February 1975 in Halisahar, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. He established himself as a filmmaker in Bengali cinema through a combination of mainstream entertainment, strong commercial storytelling and socially relevant subjects.

His feature-film directorial debut came with Chirodini Tumi Je Amar in 2008. The romantic drama became an important starting point for his career and was followed by a rapid succession of commercially successful films.

Films such as Challenge, Prem Aamar, Le Chakka, Dui Prithibi, Shotru and Bojhena Shey Bojhena established Raj as one of the most commercially successful directors of contemporary Bengali cinema.

With Proloy, Raj moved into more socially conscious storytelling. The film was inspired by the life and death of Barun Biswas and marked a different side of his filmmaking. His later films continued to move between commercial cinema, drama, romance, sports and social themes.

His 2017 sports drama Chaamp explored the world of boxing, while Parineeta became one of his notable later Bengali films. In the years that followed, he directed socially relevant projects such as Habji Gabji and Dharmajuddha.

Raj has also worked as a producer and actor and has been associated with television production. His production banner has backed several film and television projects, expanding his role beyond direction.
