The Creek, a renowned cultural and recreational hub near Raj Bhavan, witnessed an exhilarating conclusion to the inaugural CCFC 5-A Side Corporate Football Tournament. This groundbreaking event brought together professionals from various industries in Kolkata for a day of spirited competition and unity.
The tournament’s innovative 5-a-side format, featuring faster-paced matches and miniature goals, created an electrifying atmosphere. Teams comprised four outfield players and a goalkeeper, adding dynamism to the game. The tournament aimed not only to foster teamwork but also to promote talent and sportsmanship.
Distinguished chief guests graced the prize distribution ceremony. Mr. Goutam Sarkar, a former Indian international football player with a remarkable career spanning 1976-1977, was the event’s chief guest. He received the prestigious Mohun Bagan Ratna in 2023, recognizing his exceptional contributions to the sport. Alongside him was Mr. Manas Bhattacharya, a renowned striker from the 1970s-1980s, celebrated for his achievements with Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan Sporting.
Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Goutam Sarkar stated, “The 5-A Side CCFC Corporate Football Tournament not only showcases talent but also reinforces unity and camaraderie among professionals from diverse sectors.”
Mr. Manas Bhattacharya added, “The success of this tournament reflects the dedication and hard work of the participants. It’s more than a game; it’s a celebration of teamwork, dedication, and the joy of playing.”
The tournament’s significance extended beyond the competition. Mr. Bhaskar Ganguly, former captain of the Indian football team, and Mr. Mihir Bose, an esteemed former player (1977-1989), lauded the event’s role in uniting the community and fostering connections among aspiring athletes.
The tournament featured two groups: Group 1 included teams like Royal Motors, FIIOB, SUNKNOWLEDGE, and VGM Consultants, while Group 2 comprised teams SSTC, MCKV, PCM, and Bhastara Facility Management. The final match witnessed intense competition between FIIOB and SUNKNOWLEDGE from Group 1, and PCM and Bhastara Facility Management from Group 2, highlighting the participants’ dedication and teamwork.
The Creek, known for its commitment to ecological consciousness, provided an ideal backdrop for the tournament. With activities like boating, swimming, and angling, it offered a serene environment for both sports and relaxation.
