In a musical tribute that resonates with the spirit of Durga Puja, Bingo! Tedhe Medhe has released a special song titled ‘Rockanjali’ to honor 50 years of Bengali rock music. This new anthem, composed and performed by legendary Bengali rock musicians including Siddhartha Sankar Roy (Siddhu) from Cactus, Avijit Burman (Pota) from Cactus, Gaurab Chatterjee (Gabu) from Lakkhichara, and Anindya Chatterjee from Chandrabindoo, encapsulates the essence and emotional depth of the genre.
The release of ‘Rockanjali’ by Bingo! Tedhe Medhe not only pays homage to the profound cultural impact of Bengali rock but also seeks to inspire a new generation of musicians. It underscores themes of friendship and bonding, which are central to the celebrations of Durga Puja.
To further engage with the youth and foster emerging talent, Bingo! Tedhe Medhe has launched the ‘Rockanjali’ contest, inviting over 120 students from various colleges in Kolkata to showcase their musical prowess. The contest will culminate with the top 15 bands performing at some of Kolkata’s most iconic Durga Puja pandals. This initiative includes a unique ‘Concert on wheels’ which will tour six renowned pandals from Chaturthi to Navami, bringing the vibrancy of Bengali rock directly to the community.
Mr. Suresh Chand, VP & Head of Marketing, Snacks, Noodles and Pasta at ITC Foods, expressed his excitement about the project, “With Rockanjali, we aimed to create something that not only celebrates but also revitalizes the legacy of Bengali rock music. This initiative provides a platform for young talents to shine during one of Kolkata’s most celebrated festivals.”
Anindya Chatterjee, a celebrated name in Bengali music and one of the composers of the ‘Rockanjali’ song, shared his thoughts, stating, “Bengali rock has always mirrored the vibrant emotions of our community – our struggles, joys, and camaraderie. ‘Rockanjali’ is a tribute to the genre’s spirit and its fans who have cherished it for decades.”
Bingo! Tedhe Medhe’s ‘Rockanjali’ promises to be a cornerstone of this year’s Durga Puja festivities, offering a blend of music, culture, and competition that is poised to leave a lasting impact on the city and usher in a new era for Bengali rock music.
