In a major development for Tollywood, superstar Dev has made a big announcement amid ongoing unrest in the film industry. After previously raising his voice for the return of banned artists in a recent meeting, the actor has now stepped into a new role—as a director.
Having worked as a creative director in several of his own films, Dev is now all set to begin a new innings as a filmmaker. The much-anticipated project has finally been revealed—his directorial debut will be the Puja release titled Desu 7.
The film will star Subhashree Ganguly as the female lead. Notably, she was also the leading lady in Dev Entertainment Ventures’ first production. Now, she reunites with Dev as the heroine of his debut directorial venture.
Adding to the excitement, the film will also feature Anirban Bhattacharya, who was previously under controversy in Tollywood. Dev officially confirmed his inclusion, reportedly going against federation restrictions, with mediation from Prosenjit Chatterjee playing a key role in finalizing the decision.
The announcement was shared through a video featuring Dev and Subhashree, where a playful exchange hinted at the intensity of the project. Dev also revealed that he is not just directing but has written the story as well, alongside producing and acting in the film.
The reunion of Dev and Subhashree had already created a massive impact in 2025, both among fans and at the box office. After years of differences and controversies, their comeback together once again has sparked nostalgia and excitement across the industry.
Desu 7 is already shaping up to be one of the biggest releases of Puja 2026. In a unique strategy, the makers had even opened advance bookings nearly 10 months before release—something rarely seen in Indian cinema.
With the official announcement made on April 10, anticipation has reached a new high. If early buzz is any indication, Desu 7 could turn out to be a game-changer for Bengali cinema.
