Synopsis:
“Boomerang” is a comedic sci-fi film that revolves around Samar Sen (played by Jeet), a passionate computer science researcher who prefers his innovative projects over the business empire of his wealthy father-in-law (Rajatava Dutta). This leads to a marital dispute with his wife (Rukmini Maitra), who eventually returns to her father’s home. Samar, along with his young assistant Ayan (Sourav Das), embarks on a mission to create a living robot, setting the stage for a series of humorous and engaging events.

What’s Good:

  • Performances: Jeet shines in the lead role, bringing charm and humor to Samar’s character. His chemistry with Sourav Das, who delivers an exceptional performance, adds depth and humor to the film. Rukmini Maitra tackles a challenging role with grace and skill. The supporting cast, including Shyamal Chakraborty, Debchandrima Singha Roy, Biswanath Basu, Kharaj Mukherjee, and Ambarish Bhattacharya, also deliver noteworthy performances, each contributing to the film’s comedic elements.
  • Dialogue and Comedy: The witty dialogue and comedic timing are highlights of the film, ensuring consistent laughter and entertainment.
  • Direction and Cinematography: Souvik Kundu’s direction is promising, effectively translating Falguni Chatterjee’s team play ‘Poonarai Ruby Roy’ into a captivating screenplay. The cinematography team does an excellent job, enhancing the visual appeal of the film.

What’s Bad:

  • VFX: Some visual effects fall short of expectations, which can be a distraction in certain scenes. While the story and performances carry the film, improved VFX could have elevated the overall experience.

Verdict:

Loo Break: Not really necessary, as the film maintains a good pace and keeps the audience engaged.

Watch or Not?: YES. “Boomerang” is a riveting and enjoyable heist comedy that takes you on a laughter-filled journey. The standout performances by Jeet, Sourav Das, and Rukmini Maitra, combined with engaging direction and humor, make it a must-watch.

Final Thoughts:

“Boomerang” is a comedic sci-fi gem that offers a laughter-filled journey, anchored by stellar performances, witty dialogue, and engaging direction. Despite minor VFX shortcomings, the film remains thoroughly enjoyable and a notable addition to contemporary Bengali cinema. Don’t miss out on this riveting and entertaining ride!
