Toxic endured a smaller slip on Saturday, collecting approximately Rs. 26 crore on its fourth day and bringing its four-day India running total to about Rs. 204 crore.
The drop from Friday to Saturday was around 8 per cent. The film is on track to close its five-day extended weekend near Rs. 230 crore in India.
Day-wise India gross for Toxic stands as follows: Wednesday Rs. 111.75 crore, Thursday Rs. 38.50 crore, Friday Rs. 27.75 crore and Saturday Rs. 26.00 crore, totaling Rs. 204.00 crore.
Overseas earnings have been comparatively muted, with the extended weekend expected to finish around USD 3 million or thereabouts. That would place the worldwide extended first weekend at over Rs. 250 crore.
Regional performance on Saturday saw some growth in Karnataka, where Saturday collections were approximately Rs. 8 crore, taking the territory’s running total to about Rs. 49.50 crore. The rest of South India remained largely flat after a low Friday showing. The Hindi version registered a 20 per cent drop and continues to be in a freefall.
Industry estimates suggest the box office run will effectively be over after the weekend, with very little revenue expected afterwards. The film is being described as a failure at the box office. Financially, the situation is reported to be worse due to high production and distribution costs and weak non-theatrical recoveries, with projected losses among the highest ever in Indian cinema.
