The future of Khadaan 2, the much-anticipated sequel to Dev Adhikari’s Khadaan, has become uncertain amid reports of budget disagreements, producer concerns, and scheduling delays. While official confirmations remain limited, multiple industry sources suggest that the project is currently facing significant hurdles.
Director Sujit Rino Dutta has reportedly stated that the script for Khadaan 2 is nearing completion. However, he also indicated that the film’s shooting is unlikely to begin before the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, pushing the timeline further ahead. Actor-producer Dev Adhikari, without making any direct announcement, has hinted that his immediate focus is on Prajapati 2, a successful and established blockbuster franchise.
Budget Dispute and Producer Exit Rumours
According to industry insiders, one of the key challenges surrounding Khadaan 2 is a growing budget-related disagreement. Dev is believed to be keen on expanding the film’s scale and production value, which would significantly increase the budget. However, reports suggest that Nispal Singh Rane of Surinder Films, one of the joint producers, is unwilling to invest additional funds.
There is also speculation that Surinder Films may step away from the project altogether. Sources claim that Dev has allegedly been advised to look for a new financier if the sequel is to move forward as envisioned.
Creative Differences Add to Tension
Apart from financial concerns, creative and policy-level differences are said to have created further distance between the actor and the producer. Dev is reportedly not in favour of the screening committee system, whereas the producer continues to support it. This disagreement is believed to have added to the ongoing friction surrounding the sequel.
Was Khadaan Really Profitable?
While Khadaan was officially promoted as a hit, industry chatter suggests that the film may not have been highly profitable from a business perspective, especially for the producers. This factor is also being seen as a major reason behind the hesitation to greenlight Khadaan 2 without reassessing financial risks.
Industry Reactions and Internal Discontent
Recently, Dev was seen sharing a cordial moment with filmmaker Shiboprosad Mukherjee at the Federation-organised Utkarsha Samman. However, despite the public display of unity, sources claim that a section of the industry and several producers are dissatisfied with certain policies and professional approaches associated with Dev.
What Lies Ahead for Khadaan 2?
With budget constraints, producer uncertainty, and a delayed shooting schedule, Khadaan 2 currently remains in limbo. Whether Dev restructures the project, brings in new investors, or revises his priorities in the coming year is something the industry will be closely watching.
For now, the fate of Khadaan 2 appears to be time-dependent, with no immediate clarity on when—or if—the sequel will move into production.
