The title ‘Nibbā Nibbi’ may initially suggest a light-hearted love story, but its recently released trailer reveals a much darker and unpredictable journey. Directed by Tathagata Mukherjee, the upcoming ZEE5 Bangla Original combines romance, action, mystery and dark comedy.
The story follows Sauraseni Maitra and Rishav Basu, whose chance encounter takes them into a dangerous situation. What begins as a relationship soon turns into a desperate escape involving guns, violence, secrets and powerful people.
At the centre of the story is a hard drive containing sensitive information about influential people. Once it falls into the hands of the young couple, they are forced to go on the run across Bengal, encountering a series of dangerous and unexpected situations along the way.
The trailer also touches upon the darker aspects of modern relationships, including possessiveness, control, emotional dependence and toxicity. These serious themes are balanced with elements of black humour, giving the film a distinctive tone.
Sauraseni Maitra in an Intense New Avatar
Action plays a major role in Nibbā Nibbi. The trailer features gunshots, fights, bloodshed and chase sequences, with Sauraseni Maitra seen in an intense and unconventional avatar. Her character is also shown handling a gun during the couple’s dangerous journey.
The film marks the first on-screen pairing of Sauraseni Maitra and Rishav Basu. The supporting cast includes Shankar Chakraborty, Shantilal Mukherjee, Joy Badlani, Debaprasad Halder and Debashis Roy, among others.
Director Tathagata Mukherjee describes the film’s central idea as “Fun with Guns”. At its heart, the story follows two unconventional young people who want to live life on their own terms but are repeatedly forced to run as circumstances spiral out of control.
With its mix of romance, mystery, action and dark humour, Nibbā Nibbi aims to offer a different kind of Bengali OTT experience.
The film is positioned as ZEE5 Bangla’s first Bengali direct-to-digital original movie of 2026 and will premiere on ZEE5 Bangla on August 14, 2026.
