Dabba Kaka’ Title Unveiled as Excellent Pictures Launches Its Upcoming Bengali Film

Excellent Pictures officially unveiled the title of its upcoming Bengali film ‘Dabba Kaka’ during a grand ceremony that also marked the film’s Shubho Mahurat and look set.

Directed by Dipankar Ghosh and produced by Hassanuzaman Jimmy, the film boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring Rishav Basu, Aishwarya Sen, Sohini Guha Roy, Anindya Sengupta, Vinita Chatterjee, Subhankar Ghatak, and several other prominent actors. Aryann Bhowmik will make a special cameo appearance, while veteran actor Pradip Bhattacharya, who plays a pivotal role, could not attend the event due to prior commitments.

Speaking at the launch, Rishav Basu, who essays the titular role, described Dabba Kaka as one of the most exciting characters of his career. He revealed that the film is inspired by a real-life health emergency and highlights a landmark achievement in India’s medical history, making the project both unique and meaningful.

Aishwarya Sen shared that she will be seen as a village girl, a role that is vastly different from her usual urban characters. She also expressed her excitement about reuniting with Rishav Basu on screen.

Aryann Bhowmik kept details of his cameo under wraps but promised that audiences would remember his special appearance. He added that his previous association with director Dipankar Ghosh and the film’s inspiring subject made it impossible for him to decline the offer.

Director Dipankar Ghosh revealed that the story originated from an idea by his wife, Sharmistha, and has been in development for a long time. Set against the backdrop of a health crisis, the film tells the grassroots story behind one of India’s significant medical milestones. He also thanked producer Hassanuzaman Jimmy for supporting the project from its inception.

The supporting cast, including Sohini Guha Roy, Anindya Sengupta, Vinita Chatterjee, and Subhankar Ghatak, expressed their enthusiasm for portraying fresh and challenging characters. Casting director Raja JP Mandal highlighted the challenges of assembling the ensemble cast, noting that several last-minute changes were made due to scheduling conflicts.

With production set to begin shortly, Dabba Kaka is expected to hit theatres later this year. The makers believe the film’s blend of human emotion, rural storytelling, and an inspiring chapter from India’s medical history will offer audiences a refreshing cinematic experience.
