Directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, Phool Pishi O Edward is a Bengali mystery drama that combines humour, social commentary, and a murder investigation within the backdrop of a zamindar household. The story begins with a mysterious death at a wedding, leading Phool Pishi and her trusted feline companion Edward into an investigation filled with secrets, hidden motives, and family tensions. Some comedy sequences provide genuine laughs, particularly the interactions involving Rajatava Dutta and Phool Pishi, while others feel forced and add little to the story.
Despite these issues, the film remains watchable thanks to its engaging final act. While a few twists can be anticipated, the screenplay still holds back enough information to make the climax satisfying. The resolution successfully ties together the mystery and delivers an emotional payoff that elevates the overall experience.
Performance-wise, the cast does a commendable job. Sohini Sengupta carries the film with confidence and charm, while Rajatava Dutta contributes several entertaining moments. Arjun Chakrabarty stands out with a convincing portrayal of a deeply flawed and regressive character. His performance adds weight to the film’s central conflict and makes the eventual resolution more impactful. The supporting cast also performs sincerely, even though several characters are not given enough depth or screen time.
The film’s strongest aspect is its message. Through its mystery framework, Phool Pishi O Edward attempts to challenge patriarchal attitudes and highlight women’s intelligence, resilience, and strength. Although the social commentary occasionally feels too direct, the core idea remains effective and resonates by the end of the film.
On the technical front, the film delivers mixed results. The zamindar house setting had the potential to create a richer atmosphere, but the cinematography often relies on excessive close-ups and inconsistent framing. The music serves its purpose but leaves little lasting impression, while some subplots and character arcs feel incomplete.

Phool Pishi O Edward is not a groundbreaking mystery thriller, nor does it offer many surprises for seasoned fans of the genre. However, strong performances, enjoyable humour, a meaningful message, and a satisfying climax help the film overcome several of its flaws.
While the screenplay could have been tighter and the mystery more unpredictable, the film ultimately delivers a decent one-time watch for audiences who enjoy Bengali family mysteries with a social message.
