Rannabati Movie Review

Movie Name: Ranna Baati

Cast: Ritwik Chakraborty, Sohini Sarkar, Solanki Roy, Ida Chatterjee, Anirban Chakraborti, Barun Chandra
Genre: Drama
Language: Bengali

Movie Rating

Pratim D. Gupta’s Rannabati sadly stands out as one of the weakest attempts in his filmography. The premise had real heart — a widowed father, Shantanu, discovers his late wife’s handwritten recipes and embarks on a journey to reconnect with his estranged daughter. It’s a touching idea about grief, food, and emotional healing, but the film never captures the depth it promises.

🍲 Story & Writing

The kitchen was meant to become a space of rediscovery and warmth, but the writing lacks emotional transition. The father-daughter bond feels flat and undercooked, with little genuine connection. The second half drags noticeably, and the emotional rhythm breaks apart completely.

🎭 Performances

Ritwik Chakraborty delivers a few strong moments, but overall, his performance good. Sohini Sarkar is decent and sincere, . Solanki Roy appears briefly, and her chemistry with Ritwik is barely developed, which weakens their arc. Ida Chatterjee is good overall, while Anirban Chakraborti and Barun Chandra leave little impact.

🎬 Music & Technicals

Pratim D. Gupta’s direction feels unusually weak and disengaged here. The songs are average and forgettable, while the cinematography is clean but weighed down by unnecessarily stretched scenes.

💭 Verdict

Rannabati is an above-average film with heart, but no heartbeat. Despite an emotional foundation, the writing and direction fail to connect. Easily one of Pratim D. Gupta’s most underwhelming works — a film that could have been deeply moving but ends up feeling emotionally hollow.

Rating: 2.5/5
A story with flavour, but missing the soul.
