Mumtaz Sorcar wins the Bharat Nirman Award

Mumtaz Sorcar, has been awarded the Bharat Nirman award for her exemplary contribution through acting in Indian cinema at the 23rd annual Bharat Nirman on Saturday, 11 June 2016. An actress who has made us proud with her first Bollywood venture Saala Khadoos opposite Madhavan, she is also an athlete and a fashion icon, who, in a short span of six years has carved a niche for herself with more than 25 films that saw her essay a variety of roles. The actress is currently shooting for her Bengali film Raktakarabi which is a modern retelling of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s most complex work of the same name. The Amitabh Bhattacharya directorial will have music scored by ace music director Debojyoti Mishra, Bengali stage and film actor Kaushik Sen will essay the pivotal role of Bisu Pagol while the versatile Mumtaz Sorcar will be seen as Nandini. According to the actor, the character of Nandini is a modern-day bespectacled girl who is more interested in politics and governance rather than fashion. The Bharat Nirman Awards, inspired by the Late Smt. Indira Gandhi (Ex-Prime Minister of India) was established by Lt. M. C. Bhandari in 1980. Since then the award has honoured top ten talented ladies every year in Delhi, Mumbai & Calcutta.
