In a path breaking move books will now come alive, characters talk to you, situations present themselves and all this at the comfort of just a touch on your mobile screens. Welcome to the world of Power Talking Books.

The first of its kind Bengali audio book through a mobile phone app from India, Power Talking Books, developed by Power Publishers, is all set to revolutionise book reading for the busy and the uninitiated.

The app was launched today in presence of several leading Bengali authors.The app, which has a free and a subscription section, is available at Google Play store for Android users initially, but will soon be available in i-stores.

Present at the launch were eminent authors like Sukanto Gangopadhay, Tridib Kumar Chattopadhay, Ullas Mallick, Himadri Kishore Dasguspta, Binod Ghosal, Caesar Bagchi, Abhijit Sukul, Indranil Sanyal, Krishnendu Mukhopadhyay and Saikat Mukhopadhyay whose works feature in the app now. The attendees participated in an engrossing discussion on why they think digital form of presentation of literature is so important and relevant today.

“People are shifting from television and printed material like newspaper and books to mobile phones as their source of information and entertainment. Audio books can be downloaded in the form of an app on our mobile phones and can be a solution to the book lovers. There is also a large number of people who cannot read Bengali but can talk and understand it. The app will help reach out the enormously rich Bengali literature to them. This will also be a boon for the visually challenged,” said founder of Power Publishers Pinaki Ghosh.

The app has a free section consisting of single short stories, and a subscription section consisting of novels and short story collections by leading writers. The subscription fee has been kept nominal at Rs 200 annually, said author and journalist Arindam Basu, who compared the event.

The app is already getting positive reviews on social media and Google Play, where it can be downloaded. The app is easy to use and the user can choose any genre or any artist from the playlist by vertical or horizontal scrolling, similar to popular movie apps. Every week, a new stories and novels are added to the playlist. The app helps utilize unproductive time like travelling to work and back, by listening to good literature, commented Sudeshna Sen, project coordinator of the app.

This digital app has various categories like horror, motivational, mystery, novel, romance, social fiction, short story, surreal, suspense and science fiction. It showcases literary works of Sunil Gangopadhyay, Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay, Suchitra Bhattacharya, Sukanto Gangopadhay, Tridib Kumar Chattopadhay, Ullas Mallick, Himadri Kishore Dasguspta, Binod Ghosal, Caesar Bagchi , Abhijit Sukul, Indranil Sanyal, Krishnendu Mukhopadhyay, Sayantani Putatunda, Prachet Gupta, Abhijnan Roychoudhury, Sourav Mukhopadhyay and Saikat Mukhopadhyay.

Power Talking Books is developed jointly by Power Publishers and Power Publishers & Motion Pictures, who are into book publishing for 10 years and have recently started producing films.
