Thalassemia Awareness Campaign by Rotary Club Of Calcutta Presidency

West Bengal today is having one of the highest number of Thalassemia cases and such numbers are increasing rapidly through new births, mainly because of lack of awareness in the local populace about this dreaded disorder.

An event was organised at the lawns of Moharkunj by Rotary Club Of Calcutta Presidency, assisted by NIlratan Sircar Medical College, to create awareness in the general masses about the disease.

On the occasion, an elaborate program was conducted to generate interest and wareness about the disease. The ceremonial lamp was lit by Sri Debasish Kumar-MIC of Kolkata Corporation, Sri BD Sharma-Advisor (IPS) Advisor to WB Government on correctional Homes, Sri Jagmohan-(IPS),DG of WB Fire Services and other dignitaries including Dr.Prantar Chakrabarty (HOD of NRS), Dr.Rina Malpani (Gynaecologist) and Ms.Sangita Jain-President of Rotary Presidency.

Songs, Dances, Skits,debates etc were organized by children and youth drawn from various institutions. A play was put up by Thalassemia patients to show to the world that their spirits are still high inspite of the medical challenges they face. The multitude present took on oath to put in their efforts towarda making a Thallassemia free bengal.

Arangements we also made for free testing of Thallasemia at the NRS medical college and interested persons were handed over Free Test Cards at the vent site.
