Four Kutchina Krritikas Felicitated This Year

Last year they had felicitated seven woman change-makers. Kutchina, as apart of their CSR, continue their good search and support this year as well.

The four women they chose this year too like the previous year were from the eastern part of this country. Two – Priyanka and Saswati Arora are from Kolkata while Bhaotina Mushahary and Faiham Longmailai are from Kokrajhar which is in Assam and Nagaland respectively.

Seema Biswas, National Award winning actor of Bandit Queen fame, and singer Usha Uthup were the chief guest of the occasion. While Faiham’s line of work involves rehabilitation of the school and college drop outs through education, employability and entrepreneurship, Saswati works towards creating an enabling environment for the less privileged children of our society through a range of sustainable and reliable services. Bhaotina on the other hand rallies for marginalized disabled women facing some or the other forms of gender based violence. Priyanka who hails from Malda has a more immersive involvement.Being a transgender herself, her endeavour through transgender self help groups, helps her community to become self-reliant through handicrafts.

Speaking on the occasion Seema spoke about the need of peace and tolerance in one’s life and milieu. She felt that there is very much a need for recognizing those who dare to fight and are support the needy as much as there is a need to find that inner peace with the involvement of art and culture.

Last year the women who were recognized also working for various social changes like education of the children of red light areas, women trafficking, self-defense among women and such.

Again like last year, the programme came to an end with the staging of a play by an all women production headed by Ramanjit Kaur, entitled, ‘Beyond Borders’.
