Kolkata : Television funny man Sunil Grover was recently in the city to promote his upcoming film Coffee with D. The actor who got catapulted to fame with his character Gutthi on television as well as the persona of Dr Mashoor Gulati in The Kapil Sharma Show will now be seen as Arnab Ghosh in his Bollywood debut.

The film sees him playing the role of a controversial television journalist Arnab Ghosh who is hell bent on interviewing the infamous Dawood Ibrahim (played by Zakir Hussain). Coffee with D is a hilarious parody on the underworld Don’s life.

An Apex Entertainment production, Coffee with D is directed by Vishal Mishra and produced by Vinod Ramani.

Speaking at the event, Sunil, who was sporting a blue jacket went on to say, “This is the first film of 2017 and what better way to start off than by some light hearted comedy.”

When asked how comfortable is he playing a male role when people identify more with him as a woman, Sunil, who is known for his tongue-and-cheek humor promptly added that nowadays he has to take more preparations in playing a man, while essaying a role of a woman had become easier for him. “There are times when I am going on stage and I suddenly realise that I have forgotten to put on my lipstick, before reminding myself that I am playing a man now and not a woman. Dressing up as a woman is really difficult though," he said.

Talking about his experience shooting his debut film, Sunil said, “The director Vishal Mishra made us complete the film in the scheduled time and interestingly I did not do much of a rehearsal or preparation for the film. The only thing I regularly had to do was take a shower and report on sets.”

The actor also added that the City of Joy was one of his favourite places to come to and he feels that there must be a past life connection with the place. “From the food to the people, everything is beautiful in Kolkata.”

The film will hit theatres on Friday January 6, 2017.
