The victory march of Bengali films continue with not one, not two but four Bengali films being selected at the International Film Festival of South Asia | TORONTO | 2016. Belaseshe – In the Autumn of My Life directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, starring veteran actors Soumitra Chatterjee and Swatilekha Sengupta, has been selected for the film festival. The film became one of the most successful films of the last couple of decades in the Bengali film Industry after it ran for 225 days. Along with a short film, Joyee by the duo has also been selected which was also screened at the 21st Kolkata Film Festival. The short film which stars Rituparna Sengupta and debutant Devlina Kumar, boasts of a very young team of cast and crew members and is based on the social evil of child marriage. It is being screened at various remote areas of the state by State Legal Authorities, West Bengal to create awareness in rural areas. The other two films selected at IFFSA are Arindam Sil’s Har Har Byomkesh starring Abir Chatterjee, Ritwick Chakraborty, Sohini Sarkar, Nusrat Jahan among others and Anjan Dutt’s The Bong Connection starring Parambrata Chatterjee, Shayan Munshi, Samrat Chakrabarti and Raima Sen among others. Shot in the authentic locations of Benaras, Har Har Byomkesh was one of the highest grossers last year. 2016 marks the 10th year of The Bong Connection which had one of the most successful music album of the past decade and thus calls for celebration for the cast and crew members.

IFFSA Toronto is THE BIGGEST SOUTH ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL IN NORTH AMERICA. This ten day extravaganza showcases a diverse, language independent, selection of the best feature films, documentaries and short films from around the world, on themes of South Asian cultures and identities and has been represented here by its Advisory Board member, Hansdip Singh Bindra. In addition, the festival also features concerts, gala events, lounge parties, seminars, workshops and networking opportunities with government representatives, business leaders, local organizations that support film development, film stars, producers, directors, members of the media and more. IFFSA Toronto 2016 will be held from May 19 – May 23, 2016 in Ontario, Canada as part of South Asian Heritage Month celebrations. Various launch events and special series programs will take place during the month of April, 2016.
