The year's much anticipated edge-of-the-seat thriller is finally out. This one is an official adaptation of 1969 thriller 'Ittefaq' directed by late Yash Chopra that starred Rajesh Khanna, Nanda and Bindu in the lead roles. This film also marks the directorial debut of Abhay Chopra, son of late Ravi Chopra. No spoiler please!!! With the most unique marketing strategy, the makers guarded the film in every possible way. An absolute silence around the film actually generated a lot of buzz around it. Two murders, two suspects, two versions, 'Ittefaq' is undoubtedly an interesting one!
What’s Good: Akshaye Khanna, Chilling moments, hilarious breaks & climax.
What’s Bad: unconvincing things
Loo break: None at all.
Watch or Not?: Must Watch
What it's about: :
One rainy night in Mumbai, two murders, two versions, two suspects, one truth. UK based novelist Vikram Sethi (Sidharth) is a prime suspect in two murders. One, of his wife Catherine and another of Maya’s (Sonakshi) husband Shekhar. While he has been pleading not guilty, Maya has been accusing him of killing her husband. For investigating officer Dev (Akshaye), both are suspects till he unearths the truth and finds Vikram’s motive behind killing Shekhar. Both Sidharth and Maya’s versions of the night when it all happened are believable, leaving you confused about who the real killer is. Are they really innocent or is one of them lying? Could there be a third person who’s actually committed the crime? Does the police truly want to nab the killer or just close this high profile case ASAP? Are these two murders on the same night, just hours away from each other an Ittefaq or have a connection?
Ittefaq Movie Review: Star Performance & Direction :
Akshaye Khanna as investigating officer Dev comes in picture and takes the energy of the film to the next level. With his witty one liners " Akshaye's character is a treat to watch in the film.
Sidharth Malhotra has surely improved as an actor. His conversations with the cops look real. Sonakshi too is raising her acting bar with each passing film. Her helplessness to prove herself innocent is to look out for.
In his debut film, Abhay Chopra seems to have enough control of his craft to never drift too far away from the core; and even though the twist in the tale doesn’t entirely come as a surprise
Review: The Last Word:
Absolutely go for it ! watch it for nonpareil Akshaye Khanna. He overshadows everyone - and everything ..
